The Radiolarian Series (Viva La Evolution Tour Part 2)
In February Medeski Martin & Wood began their Viva La Evolution Tour a three run, three record project. In direct contrast to they way things are usually done MMW decided to spend 2008 composing the skeleton of new music, taking it on the road to flesh out the composition, and finally putting the by now well played notes down as tracks. Three times. The final product will be released as The Radiolarian Series. Radiolarians (also radiolaria) are amoeboid protozoa that produce intricate mineral skeletons, typically with a central capsule dividing the cell into inner and outer portions, called endoplasm and ectoplasm. " These "Unicellular Planktonic Marine Organisms" grow their intricately beautiful patterned skeleton around their soft core in defiance of normal biological process, similarly to Medeski Martin and Woods latest creative cycle. Some of the best examples of Radiolaria can be found in German Biologist Ernst Haeckel's book Art Forms From The Ocean: The Radiolarian Atlas Of 1862. The second touring section of this project began on July 11th in the South East and ended on July 18th in Louisville KY. Look for the first volume of the Radiolarian series in early fall. MORE >>

Zaebos Book of Angels Volume 11
The long awaited release of Medeski Martin & Wood performing Masada material will finally be available on August 19 and it is one of their tightest and most imaginative CDs ever! Original members of the earliest Masada family units (reaching back to 1993), they are keenly in tune with Zorn's musical world, and a natural choice to interpret the lyrical Book of Angels. Returning to the fold like three prodigal sons, they have created twelve exhilarating arrangements that alternately groove, loop, shred and burn with a fiery passion. MORE >>

Camp MMW. Are You Ready?
August 5-10th. MMW have packed up their instruments and laid out the lesson plan for Camp. With special guest instructors Steve Bernstein and Marc Ribot they are ready for the entrance of campers into the boundary-breaking world of Medeski Martin & Wood. Camp MMW is an incredible opportunity for musicians of varying levels and ages, to live and study with MMW in the intimate setting of a beautiful Catskill Mountain resort. This select group will gather together for five days of intensive workshops and seminars, deep listening, musical exploration, and improvisation. We have accepted a range of instruments and students. From accordion to trumpet, high school students to college professors. MMW will be expanding campers approach to music, improve listening skills, and sharing the secrets to interacting with other musicians in a completely fresh, innovative way. Think of it as musical cross training. You might be a guitarist, and study melody with keyboardist, John Medeski. Or a horn player that works on mastering rhythm with drummer, Billy Martin. Maybe you are a pianist that wants to develop your groove with bassist, Chris Wood. There will be special guests, group collaborations, and, of course, exclusive performances by MMW. In the anything-goes, non-traditional atmosphere of Camp MMW, you will be encouraged to experiment, test your limits, take risks, and enjoy newfound freedom in the process.
80,000 acres of New York States Catskill Mountain wilderness is the backdrop to the collective creative energy of Camp MMW. MORE >>

Illy B's Veggie Oil Diesel
Here's Cyro Baptista and Billy Martin with his 1991 Dodge Ram (Cummins diesel). This truck has moved, dirt, rocks, garbage, drums, bamboo, and more for Billy. He has been driving this used vegetable oil truck for over a year now. Not only has Billy helped recycle the truck, but he has also recyled all the nasty restaurant waste oil that is eventually dumped in a land fill somewhere. If interested in converting your car to run on grease like Illy B did, please order a kit from greasecar.com and have your local mechanic install it. If you smell a little Japanese tempura on the highway, it's probably Illy B and his truck! MORE >>
